good music or bust...

Well it would've been if I actually went to work.

I posted about Boy Crisis earlier in their career and I wanted a personal update. The song I posted months ago wasn't even finished, but since then they've dropped a couple singles and are gaining a lot of popularity in the indie world.

I loved the summer feel of "Dressed to Digress," but in this one they're giving me a Sade [who, today, I read is making a comeback?!] vibe, which is completely out of left field for them.

And as @believeinjojo [we on Twitter, get with it] and I agreed, you can def. make a late night ride to the city with this one.

A messsss!!

This is why I make categories. Yes, this song goes against everything I believe in, and the only reason I listened to it in the first place was because of my love for Pharrell, but sometimes I don't feel like explaining myself. I like it! However I'm too embarrassed to post it on the GoodMusicPlayer. You have to click the link to enjoy lol

Sorry I'm late, better late than never? If no, then you can leave.

:) Thanks for staying lol. So the song that almost made me miss my stop today--Q-Tip "You" off of his most recent album
The Renaissance. Since he's a legend, the usual further discussion isn't necessary.

I had to put the new Clipse track on here. And Pharrell's on it...how could this not be great??

Seriously, this sh*t is the hottest thing I've heard from everyone involved in a while...most likely my summertime anthem.

*Download* Clipse - I'm Good feat. Pharrell

The Clipse new album Till the Casket Drops is slated to drop in early September.

Glass Candy

Glass Candy sounds like Janet Jackson and Prince popped out an electro-pop baby. (Don't ask me who it came out of)

Or maybe Cindy Lauper and Madonna's 2nd cousin? But literally, every track they produce sounds different from the last. I love every single one, but judge for yourself.

This track is off their latest album, Deep Gems: A Collection of Single, B Sides, and Rarities

Just so we understand each other, this will be a daily category. Some of yal are slow...

I knew about this guy, Chip tha Ripper from his appearances on CuDi's mixtapes, and after hearing a track off of his own popular mixtape Can't Stop Me I wanted to hear more. Let's just say I'm officially a fan of Ohio...where ever that is.

It's not brand new, but this jawn still pops. The track is called "Can't Stop Me" and I'm noticing a trend with myself lately...it's all about that big, orchestrated sound, if that makes sense.

Listen on the GoodMusicPlayer or as always, the download is below.

...and I know yal are visiting to the site, so let me know what you think! (Meaning click the conversation bubble thing and leave a comment:)

This is hilarious because I have no business on here right now (Jojo), but...I promised. lol

So this is a new category I thought of on my commute this morning. Yesterday I told you that I got the new Mos Def album, and I really got a chance to listen to the whole thing today on my way to CBS. I'm calling this category "The 1" because I heard my inspiration on the 1 train [I know, real Jenny from the block of me...], and because I'll be posting my #1 song of the day.

"Roses" by Mos Def feat. Georgia Anne Muldrow was literally the perfect mellow tune to start my day. Georgia had me bout to cry at 9:30 AM! lol

For now, listen to it on the GoodMusicPlayer. I'll have a link up later.

*Update*

Here's the download link. Seriously, I know you'll like this, just listen.

I'M BACK! This is very exciting for me. I consider myself a veteran blogger now, and with Twitter I plan on taking this sh*t to the next level! lol So here's the T...music has hit some highs [CuDi is makin moves, his debut album finally drops in August] and some lows [Ron Brownz still out here] during my absence, and I've been listening the whole time. A few albums that have been in heavy rotation... Chester French - Love the Future Mother Mother - O My Heart [Not brand new, but new to me] Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap [C.O. or not, he never disappoints] Kid Cudi - Dat Kid From Cleveland [latest...mixtape lol] And many, many more, but I'm ready to get back to the point. Mos Def is back on the music scene with his fourth album, The Ecstatic released yesterday. It's almost like he was waiting for me. We all know I'm partial towards The Neptunes, so I immediately gravitated to "Twilite Speedball" produced by Chad Hugo. Check that track out on the GoodMusicPlayer or download it here. As always, please support real music and buy the albums! [Of course I do...] ...and as for Susan Boyle? Absolutely not!

The Return...

Posted In: . By Alicia P.

Ok this semester has been crazy. I told yal from January it would be, so don't act surprised that my last post was...well you see it. But I have certainly been on my job, I just haven't been posting anything. But good things come to those who wait, and JUNE '09...I'm back! Better than ever and all that. I'm very excited about where music is going, minus Asher Roth, and I can't wait to share my discoveries, and jokes, with all of you!

New Chester French ----->

Crazy.

I kinda knew this would happen (as I said last Monday). But look...I'm interning 3 days a week, and I'm going to class 3 days a week. That doesn't even make sense right? Exactly. So fall back Phil lol. But just for my brother, and my Brother from another Jojo, here's a tune from Grand Theft Auto III that I rediscovered when Jojo brought it over on Sunday.

*Download* Craig Gray - Fade Away

Seriously, I love GTA for this.

Here's the original lol

I'd like to say that I'm sorry, but I'm not." -Kelly Cutrone

Lol, moving on...

Flying Lotus is a producer, often compared to the late J Dilla because of his soulful beats. This is one of my favorite tracks by him, mostly because the singer, Andreya Triana, is the perfect compliment to this neo-groove.

Flying Lotus - Tea Leaf Dancers

(Including the VH1 show lol) But not in a "let's put on colorful clothes" kinda way. More in a synthpop, Kim Wilde, Pleasure Principle kinda way. Since I wasn't born until 1988, I appreciate bands like Chromeo and NEON NEON, for allowing me to hear new, 80's music in 2009.

Chromeo...

*Download* Chromeo- 100% (Trackademicks RMX)

Here's a performance of the original version. I have to see these guys live. Hopefully P-Thugg doesn't have to have his shirt off :/

Finally.

Finally as in I finally have a post up for today, sorry, I was making big moves. And finally as in Chester French has actually released another track. Love them and this song.

*Download* Chester French-Dance

Something tells me this isn't the final mastered version so I'll have that for you as soon as I get it.

Gnarls Barkley's single "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" is one of my favorite tracks of '08, and they recently released this remix featuring...Jota Flowers. I listened to it because I wanted to see who this new rapper was working with Gnarls, and I was like ok, this is def Jay Electronica!

Jay/Jota is Erykah Badu's boo/baby father (LOL cuz when I was looking for a pic of him I went to his MySpace and Erykah commented on every single pic. On the one she was like "baby, please tell these hos to find another past time." lmaoo but yea,) and he's one of the most underrated rappers, period.

*Download* Gnarls Barkley feat. Jota Flowers (Jay Electronica) - Who's Gonna Save My Soul RMX

Here's another track also featured on Jay's new mixtape, FWMJ & Jay Electronica Present: Scratches & Demo Tape Volume 1.

*Download* Jay Electronica - Swagger Jackson's Revenge
(ps. Jay is known for using unconventional samples. Here he uses Michael Jackson, not a Michael Jackson song, a Michael Jackson interview.)

I did a post about Jay earlier in GoodMusic days, so click the Jay Electronica tag for more.

UPDATE: So as I was writing this post, blogger took down my KiD CuDi "Next in '09" post lol. KiD CuDi=G.O.O.D. Music, which=Kanye West's hype ass. Which means I probably can't post any of his mp3s either :/...

jk, I'll find a way ;)

It's my BBF (Best Boy Friend) Jojo's 21st birthday on Sunday, so this post is dedicated to him! He def has a good ear for music like myself, and we were talking the other day about how much we love The Ting Tings and their single "That's Not My Name." Also Jojo can appreciate my obsession with The Hills/The City because he agrees that they do play some hot fire on there. So for you Jojo, here's a remix of "That's Not My Name" and the Ting Tings song I played for you the other day "We Walk" (from The City).

(Jojo and the best Halloween costume ever.)

Here's the video for the original version.

My hand is famous!!! I was just on Lupe's blog and he had a post about KiD CuDi. I clicked on the video, which was part of MTV's MC's to Watch in 2009 series, and what do I see??? MY HAND recording CuDi's performance!! LMAOOO

Jojo (The birthday boy above this post) is also in the video staring in amazement at the performance, but that's not what's important, MY HAND was front and center when the cameraman turned towards the audience. MY HAND! lol

Look!!!! LOL

(I'm holding the gray Samsung phone right behind the hype ass red camera at like 53 seconds.)

Thursday: Lykke Li

Posted In: , , , . By Alicia P.

Barely 3 years into the game and Lykke Li has already done collaborations with Santogold and Kanye West.

Lykke Li is a Swedish Indie singer just coming out on the scene at 22. She migrated to New York when she was 19 years old to pursue her songwriting career and so far, so good.

Here she recreates her single "Little Bit" into a duet with Drake (he did that "Replacement Girl" song with Trey Songz). Rapper Mickey Factz hops on the track as well.

Lykke Li's debut album Youth Novels is available now where GoodMusic is sold.

Writing that Colin Munroe post got me thinking...wtf is Wale doin' right now anyway? So here's what I got from the Hip-Hop + Go Go front man himself...

*Download* Wale- UK Freestyle
(In the beginning of the track, Wale says this is what you can expect on his album. So if you're curious, check it out.)

And this track is from the new 10Deep Presents Benzi "The New Deal Mixtape"

*Download* Wale- 2nd Time feat. Brother Ali
(Ali def goes in on this one.)

Also, somehow I missed the premiere of the "Nike Boots" video last month..so here it is lol

Wale "Nike Boots" video (Directed by Chris Robinson)

Hot.

Colin Munroe

Posted In: , , . By Alicia P.

So I went to a Wale concert like a month ago at the Highline Ballroom. Like I said the other day, I really went to see the opening act KiD CuDi, but CuDi's opening act caught my eye as well. Basically this was just a fly ass concert that u shoulda been at (Brie lol).

Colin Munroe is from Toronto and he made a name for himself last year with his remix of Kanye's "Flashing Lights" (Check that video out HERE.) At the Highline concert, this man had on a skunk hoodie, with like skunk fur on the top, so I was preparing for the worst. But then once the lights dimmed and I saw that he was the only person on stage surrounded by a drum set, a keyboard, and a mic...I got excited again. He performed a song called "Cannon Ball" that I actually liked better live, but his voice sounds real sweet (lol but for real) on this version too.

Colin Munroe- Cannon Ball feat. Drake

And here's a track featuring Wale off of his new mixtape, Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero.

Tuesday: Cut Copy

Posted In: , . By Alicia P.

Australia definitely has some of the flyest indie/dance/electropop bands...if you're into that kinda bullsh*t lol. I know I am. And between Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts, I might have to see what's poppin down under one day soon. Their latest single, "Far Away" is def a hot track, and this remix just made my day.

Cut Copy - Far Away (The Golden Filter RMX)

**Closed-minds: Let it rock til 47 seconds and tell me that sh*t don't pop.**

Here's an EP they just dropped if you wanna hear more...

Cut Copy - So Cosmic

And what the hell, here's a live performance of another one of their hit singles "Lights and Music"

Cut Copy - Live on rove

I'm so effin generous.

I'm not denying my love Pharrell any time on my blog cuz Kanye wanna act up. I can't put the mp3 up here bc it will clearly be taken down, but this post is really about the video that was just released for Madonna's crazy track "Beat Goes On" featuring not her, but Skateboard P and Yeezy himself.

If you've been to her Sticky & Sweet Tour concert this is the video that plays in the background too...

Kenna RMX feat. Cool Kids

The Cool Kids are on everyone's "hot" list right now and Star Trak's Kenna has been on mine for a couple years now. Here's a new Cool Kids remix of one of my fav Kenna songs, "Loose Wires," off of Kenna's last album, Make Sure They See My Face.

GoodMusic is Back!!

Posted In: . By Alicia P.

For real this time.

I have a lovely time expressing myself musically on this blog, but honestly I haven't had any time to give it the attention it deserves. But one of my many New Year's Resolutions is to stay dedicate to my fans (stfu cuz you're on here right now lol), and update GoodMusic every weekday, just like all the other great blogs I know.

You know what really effed me up though. When I would update this sh*t regularly, artists like Kanye (who I love, but is hype as sh*t) would have their people take my stuff down. And I take pride in the way I present my posts, so it hurts when they just come and swiper my sh*t.

So here's the thing, from now on this blog will solely focus on the hottest up and coming artists, before they shut me down. If you're close-minded and only came on here to find some new sh*t from someone you actually heard of...bye.

I'm also working on making this even more legit, changing up the background, maybe get a logo...somethin' light. But all that's coming up later in '09, it's def still New Year's so I'm still in recovery mode. I got somethin' for yal tomorrow though so stay tuned!

And for the record, I did have a post in December, but it included hype ass himself, and was taken down immediately lol.

Ok I'm done so happy 2009! I love you all! And make sure your ass comes back everyday or your a lame.

-Alicia
