Well it would've been if I actually went to work.

I posted about Boy Crisis earlier in their career and I wanted a personal update. The song I posted months ago wasn't even finished, but since then they've dropped a couple singles and are gaining a lot of popularity in the indie world.

I loved the summer feel of "Dressed to Digress," but in this one they're giving me a Sade [who, today, I read is making a comeback?!] vibe, which is completely out of left field for them.

And as @believeinjojo [we on Twitter, get with it] and I agreed, you can def. make a late night ride to the city with this one.

I knew about this guy, Chip tha Ripper from his appearances on CuDi's mixtapes, and after hearing a track off of his own popular mixtape Can't Stop Me I wanted to hear more. Let's just say I'm officially a fan of Ohio...where ever that is.

It's not brand new, but this jawn still pops. The track is called "Can't Stop Me" and I'm noticing a trend with myself lately...it's all about that big, orchestrated sound, if that makes sense.

This is hilarious because I have no business on here right now (Jojo), but...I promised. lol

So this is a new category I thought of on my commute this morning. Yesterday I told you that I got the new Mos Def album, and I really got a chance to listen to the whole thing today on my way to CBS. I'm calling this category "The 1" because I heard my inspiration on the 1 train [I know, real Jenny from the block of me...], and because I'll be posting my #1 song of the day.

"Roses" by Mos Def feat. Georgia Anne Muldrow was literally the perfect mellow tune to start my day. Georgia had me bout to cry at 9:30 AM! lol

I'M BACK!

This is very exciting for me. I consider myself a veteran blogger now, and with Twitter I plan on taking this sh*t to the next level!

So here's the T...music has hit some highs [CuDi is makin moves, his debut album finally drops in August] and some lows [no one shot Ron Brownz yet] during my absence, and I've been listening the whole time.

Mos Def is back on the music scene with his fourth album, The Ecstatic released yesterday. It's almost like he was waiting for me. We all know I'm partial towards The Neptunes, so I immediately gravitated to "Twilite Speedball" produced by Chad Hugo.

I know a lot of people have said throughout this weekend that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream has officially been realized with the election of the first Black President, but trust me, we still have a long, long way to go.

GoodMusicOrBust is probably one of the most eclectic and open-minded music blogs on the web, so what better place to promote diversity than right here.

here's what i wrote a kid named sayer houseal. he's a white student from A&M, and the only reason we are friends is because he facebooked me back in the day cause he thought it was coo that he had the same last name.

well, his status said something to the affect of "i'm tired of these ethnicities thinking they don't have to work because Obama's in office. it's NOT a free ride."

well, after embarassing him on his facebok wall, he wrote back saying he's not racist, no one will kick his ass, he was blown away by a conversation he had with some people, blahdy blah, this and that. here's my reply. it's good for sparking conversation that's appropriate and needed at this time. let me know if i was preachin too much, hahaaha.

ok, if you're not racist, then what are you? overprivileged, prejudiced, ignorant, and a discriminator. the ridiculous generalization and stereotypical remark you put on your status reflects the EXACT definitions of all almost of those prior terms. so if you want to get into the semantics of the word then no: maybe you're not racist in then "context" that you don't believe in the doctrine that your race is superior to others, but your statement certainly reflects the definitions of the other terms i used.

SECOND, the fact that you had a conversation that blew your uninformed mind with a few minorities and it led you to make a generalized ass statement in which you IGNORANTLY referred to ALL minorities as "ethnicities" and then speak in a very generalized manner on our work ethic and what we believe are granted privileges due to our African-American president PROVES that you are in fact ignorant, and have at least blatant feelings of prejudice and discrimination.

THIRD, learn your definitions, even if they're urban. what's the definition of a hick: a white person from and/or in a rural area/state that is uninformed about other people and their cultures and usually doesn't understand people who are different and probably makes generalizations about them and groups them accordig to his belief. based on what YOU wrote, tell me how far off from you that definition is.

FOURTH, like i said, you bring that ignorant crap here to the areas i live, have lived and even attended school, your ass would be grass. period. and i don't care if you're sayer houseal, jet li, or The Rock, spitting that prejudiced and discriminatory bullshit gets you a trip to the hospital. that is, of course unless you have some magical texan way of defeating an angry and disrespected mob of minorities AND white people. i'm not threatening or any of that, i'm just giving you the facts.

finally, i don't need to know the "context" of anything. you made a ridiculous statement that was disrespectful to ALLLLLLLL minorities, and it is untrue. so what if a few minorities believe that they have a free ride because of Obama? there's a lot of ridiculous thoughts and expectations from minorities and white people alike in reference to what Obama can and will accomplish. furthermore, if those people are also that ignorant and naive about what Obama will do, then yes, you by all means could have said how you were appalled at how some minorites have unrealsitic expectations for Obama, and that we ALL still have to work hard, and NO ONE gets a gree ride. but to say what you said...well, i'm sure i've clarified in simple terms what you said.

like i said earlier, you need to educate yourself; even if that's not what you meant, which i believe it exactly was, you need to make sure you specify your thoughts and beliefs so that you don't make yourself look I G N O R A N T. i don't mean to come off like a complete ass, but i just need to make my point. we're in an america where us minorities (as well as much of the majority) are seeing amazing things happen and are hoping for a lot of things to change or get better, so when people make statements like the ones you made, it's sobering in the fact that we, if just for a second, have to risk "turning into a pilar of salt by looking back" on the old while steadfastly marching for a better future.

i don't know what those people said, but maybe i would agree with them, maybe i wouldn't. i certainly don't want a free ride, but would i like to not be stereotyped as angry, unintelligent, "urban," solely athletic, and dangerous because i'm a 6'1 200lb dark skin african-american. i would like there not to be studies that show there is a huge gap in education and educational funding for blacks than whites, i would like my people to not be discriminated against in the job market because of their name, i would like the educational, cultural, and health gap to close from minorities and white people. now, is that a job one man can do? No. but it's also not a job ONLY for minorities to work for by themselves. we all need to open our eyes, EDUCATE OURSELVES, understand the past and present plight of those different from them them, and work together to be generally more understanding of each other, individually, ethnically, and culturally. so with this state of mind, when i see someone who doesn't have a diverse group of friends (i looked through your facebook for a bit), is from a country area, and makes generalized statements about minorities (in case you don't realize, calling minorities "ethnicities" is....unacceptable and offensive, to say the least), it disappoints me because it makes me think of and realize how much ignorance and undeserved privilege still exists in this country.

think before you act, and get to know some people who aren't different shades of vanilla. learn about their past, their present, and their hopes for the future. their struggles and accomplsihed goals, their privilege and their oppression, and i think not only will you not just see us as "ethnicities," but you'll see that we have a great deal in common, more importantly: this country will be one step closer to understanding each other, and finding enough common ground so that we can all have that EQUAL opportunity to live our lives and truly put to use our CONSTITUTIONAL right to our individual pursuit of happiness.

Jay/Jota is Erykah Badu's boo/baby father (LOL cuz when I was looking for a pic of him I went to his MySpace and Erykah commented on every single pic. On the one she was like "baby, please tell these hos to find another past time." lmaoo but yea,) and he's one of the most underrated rappers, period.

Barely 3 years into the game and Lykke Li has already done collaborations with Santogold and Kanye West.

Lykke Li is a Swedish Indie singer just coming out on the scene at 22. She migrated to New York when she was 19 years old to pursue her songwriting career and so far, so good.

Here she recreates her single "Little Bit" into a duet with Drake (he did that "Replacement Girl" song with Trey Songz). Rapper Mickey Factz hops on the track as well.

So I went to a Wale concert like a month ago at the Highline Ballroom. Like I said the other day, I really went to see the opening act KiD CuDi, but CuDi's opening act caught my eye as well. Basically this was just a fly ass concert that u shoulda been at (Brie lol).

Colin Munroe is from Toronto and he made a name for himself last year with his remix of Kanye's "Flashing Lights" (Check that video out HERE.) At the Highline concert, this man had on a skunk hoodie, with like skunk fur on the top, so I was preparing for the worst. But then once the lights dimmed and I saw that he was the only person on stage surrounded by a drum set, a keyboard, and a mic...I got excited again. He performed a song called "Cannon Ball" that I actually liked better live, but his voice sounds real sweet (lol but for real) on this version too.

For real this time.

I have a lovely time expressing myself musically on this blog, but honestly I haven't had any time to give it the attention it deserves. But one of my many New Year's Resolutions is to stay dedicate to my fans (stfu cuz you're on here right now lol), and update GoodMusic every weekday, just like all the other great blogs I know.

You know what really effed me up though. When I would update this sh*t regularly, artists like Kanye (who I love, but is hype as sh*t) would have their people take my stuff down. And I take pride in the way I present my posts, so it hurts when they just come and swiper my sh*t.

So here's the thing, from now on this blog will solely focus on the hottest up and coming artists, before they shut me down. If you're close-minded and only came on here to find some new sh*t from someone you actually heard of...bye.

I'm also working on making this even more legit, changing up the background, maybe get a logo...somethin' light. But all that's coming up later in '09, it's def still New Year's so I'm still in recovery mode. I got somethin' for yal tomorrow though so stay tuned!

And for the record, I did have a post in December, but it included hype ass himself, and was taken down immediately lol.

Pharrell's been working with a new artist, Big Sean, who signed to G.O.O.D. Music (of no affiliation with GoodMusicOrBust...it's John Legend and them, which means he'll probably be working with Kanye 'Hype Ass' West as well) in 2007, then Island Def Jam earlier this year.

The annual CMJ (College Music Journal) Music Festival was held last week, which meant I got to go see an unlimited amount of bands on my radio station's dime.

Since school and I aren't friends right now, I wasn't going to go until Friday night, but I looked at the set list for Thursday and JANELLE MONAE and CHESTER FRENCH were playing at the Bowery Ballroom...aka F*CK responsibilities.

Since I'm cool, I got to hang out with all of them after the show...but we'll talk about that another day. The moral of this post is the band I "accidentally" saw before Janelle went on.

Company of Thieves is one of those rare CMJ Festival finds that I'm sure is going to blow up very soon. They put on a crazy live show, and even though I never heard of them, I was instantly hooked.

This is one of the songs they performed Thursday night that made me actually buy their CD.

Top 5 Worst Kid Games Ever.

Now I know yall remember the classic days of the 90's. I wish I can go back because 2k has sucked so far, except of the invention of YouTube, the stress reliever. I did my research and placed 5 of the worst games known to man in the 90's. There are plenty more but, here are my top 5.

5. "Crossfire" - I really dont know how to explain this, its like air hockey, meets pinball meets something else. All I know is...This commercial is false advertising like crazy. I once played this game, and excuse my french, but this sh*t is boring.

FINALLY, a music video from our favorite cybergirl, Janelle Monae! "Many Moons" debuted yesterday on 106 & Park (which I think was Black Embarassment TV's way of tricking me to watch) and Janelle Monae even stopped by to introduce herself to the mainstream world. Rocsi dumb ass couldn't even pronounce her damn name right. I hate that show.

But back to Jane...she introduced the video as a short film, and that's definitely what it is. The video is even better than I could have ever expected, but then again, Ms. Monae rarely dissapoints.

The day after I posted his new video, Common went and changed the name of his forthcoming LP from Invincible Summer to Universal Mind Control...probably because the Summer is nice and gone.

The CD is now expected to come out sometime in November, and in case you didn't know, the whole thing will be produced by The Neptunes :)

Soooo I host a morning show on Hofstra University's radio station every week (I would give yal more information about it, but Tuesday was kinda my last show, for now. I gotta focus on other things for a little bit.), and one of the biggest topics for discussion/debate was the upcoming Presidential election, and of course, Barack Obama. So since I'm feeling a little bit of withdrawl from not discussing my man Barack on my show once a week, I'm gonna do it on here.

If you're up on your politics at all, you know that the main thing the world was waiting to hear from Barack Obama...and that other guy...was the announcement of who they've chosen to be their runningmates. And while Mccain continues to keep us in suspense (I'm sooo curious :/ ), Obama announced his decision via text message at about 3 A.M. Saturday morning.

Joe Biden, Senator of Delaware and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will be Barack Obama's Vice President, and you know what...I'm not mad at that at all. Having someone like Biden on his ticket will get all the sceptics to STFU when it comes to Obama's lack of experience in foreign policy (which to me is irrelevant bc CLEARLY George W.'s "experience" ain't do SHIT for us). But I digress...

Obama's choice really isn't a surprise. Biden's name has been floating at the top of all the possiblities (while Clinton's sunk to the bottom...seriously, that would have been a mess), and I think he'll be a great balance to Obama's personality.

I guess we'll have to forgive him for that slick, Barack Obama is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” comment he made a few months ago...
